[edit] Technology

The Game Boy Advance is a progressor 32 bit portable system. In other words it can hold up to 32 bits of graphics in a portable system. However because of technological reasons, mainly only 2D games can be played on it. Many Super NES games have been remade and re-released for the Game boy advance. Also the system has shown the ability to have graphics similar to early PSX games. In 2004 the game boy advance took a step further with game boy advance video. Game boy advance video allows foro full color, full motion video on the game boy advance. Mejasco relesased a full line of the videos throughout 2004. Many of the videos are cartoons that are aimed to children. There have also been animated movies that were released on Game Boy Advance video. For copyright laws, Majesco has made sure that none of the videos are playable on the Game Boy Player accessory. This is to insure that audiances won't use A VCR to record the shows on the TV, then sell the tapes.

[edit] Playing the system

To play the Game Boy Advance the player must turn the system on with the ON switch located at the bottom of the system (or on later models on the side). When first turned on the Game Boy logo will pop out in a sort of 3D fashion followed by nintendo. Immediately after that the game will start. The system has seven basic bottons Start, select, A, B, R, L, and the D-Pad. On later models another blank button is also included. This button allows the user to turn the game light on of off. To play the game the user must refer to the games manual to find out button combos and such but the following is a basic rundown on what controls do what in most games.

  • D-pad: moves character
  • A button: do action
  • B button: do action
  • START: pause game
  • Select: N/A or Pause Game
  • R Button: do action
  • L Button: N/A or bring up menu

Also keep in mind that controls may change throughout the diffrent parts of a game.

While playing a game the game can be reseted by pressing and holding L, R, Start, select, A, and B all at the same time. When watching a Game boy advance video the A and B buttons control brightness, the D-pad highlights options, the R and L buttons skip chapters and the START button pauses the game. On the buttom (or on the side in later models) there is a volume bar that controls the volume of any game played on the Game Boy Advance. All games are inserted into the top of the system (or into the bottom in later models). When done playing turn the system off with the OFF swithch (which is the same as the ON swithch)

[edit] Accesories

The Game Boy Advance has a wide varity of accesories. The accesories are things thst add extra quality to the game. Many of the accestories for the game boy advance go into specialy designed parts of the system. Even though there are more minor accesories, here are the major ones.

[edit] Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable

This is a game link that connects to the small hole in the game boy advance. Use this to connect with other gamers. By using the game link cable, gamers are able to battle eachother. They can also trade with eachother and even in some cases play alongside eachother in games. In many games, the cable can connect up to four players at once with only one game pak. In other cases all players playing will need their own copy of the game. Some games can connect with other diffrent games to do similar battles and trades. The following is a list of games that can connect with other games.

  • Super mario advance w/ Super mario advance 2, Super mario advance 3, and Super mario advance 4.
  • Pokémon Ruby w/ Pokémon Sapphire, Pokémon Emrald, Pokémon Firered, and Pokémon Leafgreen.

[edit] Wireless Adapter

The Wireless Adapter is an accesory that connects to the same hole as the game link cable. It straps onto the system then is able to connect with other wireless adapters without cords. It does the same things that a game link cable can do. However it only works with a few special games. The wireless adapter works up to 10 feet away so it allows for longer distances between gamers, however since it only works with a few games it's not a very popularly item. Especially since the Nintendo DS system is already wireless, almost all games work with the feature, and it can go up to 100 feet away. Because of all of these reasons the wireless adapter never caught on. The following is a list of games that work with the wireless adapter.
