Help:Signing your comments
From WikiKnowledge
When you leave a message on a talk page, or other discussion page (such as WikiKnowledge:Site Discussion) it is important to remember to always sign your comments. Singing your comment lets people know who wrote what, it also automatically adds the current date and time so people know when the comment was made.
[edit] How to sign a comment
To sign a comment just type ~~~~ at the end. Instead of typing ~~~~ you can instead press the signature button above the edit box. It is the second from the right. Here is an example with the ~~~~ shown in red:
Thanks for your help, Jim. ~~~~
When you save the page, the ~~~~ will automatically change to show you username if you have one, or your IP address if you don't as well as the current date and time. This is what the above example might look like.
[edit] Forging Signatures
It is possible for people to forge a person’s signature, by typing out the username and time by hand. However your real username or IP address will still be recorded in the page history which can be checked by anyone at any time. People who forge signatures may be blocked from editing by any admin.
